Does Netflix Still Have a Free Trial? What to Do Instead

No. As of October 2026, signing up for Netflix in the US means entering a payment method and being charged from the day you join. The closest thing to a trial is one paid month that you cancel before it renews, and there are two ways to make that month cost you nothing out of pocket.

What Netflix’s own pages say

We checked the pages a new US customer would see:

None of them offers a free period. Netflix’s Terms of Use, last updated April 10, 2026, do mention “introductory Offers,” but say eligibility is decided by Netflix at its sole discretion and that households with an existing account may not qualify. That wording leaves room for a promotion to appear, so if you see one, confirm it on netflix.com itself and nowhere else.

Option 1: Pay for one month and cancel before it renews

Netflix has no contract. Its homepage FAQ says you can cancel online and that there are no cancellation fees. So the plain version of a trial is:

Netflix’s “How to cancel Netflix” help article explains how long you can keep watching after you cancel. Read it before you decide whether to cancel on day one or a few days before renewal.

This is not free, but your cost is fixed at one month of the cheapest plan and nothing renews. Netflix’s sign-up page lets you change plans at any time, so you can move up later if the ads or the picture quality bother you.

Option 2: Start with a gift card and no bank card

This is the closest match to what a trial used to be. Netflix’s gift card help page says:

So an account opened with a gift card and no bank card cannot charge you anything when the balance ends. It just stops. That is a real difference from the old trial, which rolled into a paid plan unless you remembered to cancel.

If the gift card itself cost you nothing, the month is free. You can earn a Netflix gift card on CashyGo instead of buying one. The numbers:

Compare the card amount shown on the withdraw page with the price of the plan you want before you cash out. Netflix’s page does not spell out what happens when a balance is smaller than one month’s charge, so pick an amount that covers the full month.

The tasks that earn those points are listed on the Earn page. CashyGo’s FAQ says there is no guaranteed daily income, and what you can earn depends on the offers available in your country.

Option 3: See if your phone plan already includes it

T-Mobile’s “Netflix on Us” page states, as of October 2026, that Netflix Standard with ads is included at no additional cost on qualifying plans, including Experience Beyond, Experience More, the Go5G family and Magenta MAX. You activate it in the T-Life app. If you are already a T-Mobile customer on one of those plans, you may be paying for a benefit you have not switched on.

Fake “Netflix free trial” offers

Because the real trial is gone, almost every page promising one is after something else. Common versions:

If you get one of these messages, Netflix asks you to forward it to [email protected]. If you already entered details, change your Netflix password, change it anywhere else you used the same one, and call your bank if a card was involved.

FAQ

Did Netflix ever have a free trial?

Older articles describe one, and that is why the search is still popular. The pages Netflix shows US customers as of October 2026 do not offer it.

Can I cancel Netflix right after signing up?

Yes. Netflix says you can cancel online at any time with no cancellation fee.

Can I open a Netflix account without a credit card?

Yes, with a gift card. Netflix’s gift card page says no payment method is required until the balance runs out.
